Creating healthy relationships
Having been Nanaimo's homegrown pharmacy for the past 125 years, we're extremely proud of the legacy that we've established. We're even more proud about our mission today - creating healthy relationships one patient at a time.
Making you and your health
our first priority
It’s one thing to be recognized by your pharmacist, but another thing, altogether, to have them know who you are... and go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and cared for.
Yet that’s just what our patients come to expect from us through the years. It’s an expectation we live up to everyday. We make our patients a priority—by taking as much time as is needed to fully understand personal needs and ensuring everyone feels heard; by sourcing and calling around for any medication that may not be readily available; and by creating customized solutions to a specific ailment. It’s all part of providing a friendlier more personalized approach to healthcare.
With you in mind
Using our Pharmacy First approach, we chose to operate Central Drugs with you in mind. This means incorporating numerous customer-centric services, features, and protocols - including having more pharmacists on staff per location than any other pharmacy in town.
We have the largest dedicated delivery fleet in the city - to ensure you can receive your medication at home as soon as possible. Some of our team members are even fluent in French, German, Cantonese and Polish. Just a few examples of what we do with you in mind.
You may have a favourite,
but you'll want to meet us all
Providing the best in patient care has always been my focus. Since 2000, I’ve been proud to be a part of the Central Drugs family where I’ve developed long standing personal relationships both with our staff and patients. When I’m not engaging with patients you can find me working on my swing or in search of my next travel adventure.
Informally known as “Dr. Russ” to many, I began my career after graduating from the University of British Columbia specializing in Diabetic training. I then moved to Palliative Care with a focus on pain and symptom management. After 32 years, you could say Central Drugs is in my blood, though I don’t particularly like the sight of it.
Helping has long been at the core of what I do and enjoy the most. In fact, since 1990 I’ve had the pleasure of providing thousands of patients throughout Nanaimo with health care solutions they couldn’t achieve by themselves. Though I’m trying to find the time to fish and golf, I wouldn’t trade being in a profession that, over the years, has become so rewarding.
I’ve always wanted to make a difference in my community and, at Central Drugs I’ve been able to do this - for the past 14 years. By blending my love for chemistry with passion of interacting with patients I’ve been able to make a meaningful difference. When not with my Central Drugs ‘family’ I enjoy quality time with family or getting in a game of beach volleyball.
After graduating from the University of British Columbia in 2010, I decided that I wanted to start my pharmacy career in my home town of Nanaimo - where my family has been for four generations. I then joined the Central Drugs family – because they share my patient-centred values – and have been here for over 10 years.
Being a pharmacist is the perfect balance, bringing together my enjoyment of working with people and passion for the sciences. Having the opportunity to spend time with patients, develop relationships while having the freedom to provide personalized service is one of the many reasons I’ve called Central Drugs my home for 7 years.
There’s nothing more rewarding than receiving a “thank you” from a patient. That’s something I’ve been fortunate to receive regularly since I joined Central Drugs in 2011. Though I`m proud to be a part of the Central Drugs family, life would not be complete without the chance to strum a few notes on my guitar or take in the great outdoors camping with my real family.
